Wildbird Food

Southern Agriculture carries many Wildbrid Mixes including Waste Free Feeds, Woodpecker Food, Nuggets for Songbirds, Suet in lots of varieties and seeds fuch as Thistle, Safflower, Sunflower, Sunflower Chips, Shelled Peanuts, Cracked Corn, etc.  Brands carried include Kaytee, C & S, Wild Delight, Pennington and more..

Different seeds and feeders attract different birds here are some general guide lines:

Thistle Seed is very nutritious because it is high in oil and protein and considered the best seed for attracting many varieties of finches and small songbirds. Thistle Seed attracts Goldfinches, Purple Finches, Redpolls, Pine Siskins, and Indigo Buntings

Black Oil Sunflower Seed will attract a wide range of birds. Both small and large birds it's shell can easily be opened by all size birds. Also it is high in energy and a good source of protein for most birds. Black Oil Sunflower attracts birds like Cardinals, Nuthatches, Finches, Goldfinches, and Chickadees.

Striped Sunflower Seed appeals to larger birds because of its size and hard shell and it has higher oil content. Striped Sunflower Seed attract birds like Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, and Cardinals.

 Sunflower hearts and chips attract a wide variety of birds. Sunflower hearts are a great source of protein and are high in oil. Highly nutritious and it leaves no seed hulls under the feeder to clean up! Sunflower hearts and Chips will attract Juncos, Finches, Cardinals, Grosbeaks, Nuthatches, Towhees, Tufted Titmice, Woodpeckers, and Chickadees

Millet is a good source of starch, vitamins and minerals, and generally the preferred by bird's who like smaller seed such as Juncos, Towhees, Buntings, Sparrows, Morning Doves, Chickadees, Cardinals, and Pine Siskins.

Safflower Seed is highly desirable to cardinals it is also has a high oil content. Squirrels will not eat safflower because of its bitter taste. Safflower seed attracts mostly Cardinals, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Evening Grosbeaks and Brown Thrashers.

Peanuts (whole or shelled) are a great source of fat and protein for wild birds. Peanuts attract birds like Blue Jays, Titmice, Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Chickadees, Blue Birds, Kinglets, Mocking Birds, Indigo Buntings, Juncos, Warblers, and Towhees.

Suet is especially attractive to insect-eaters such as woodpeckers, chickadees, and nuthatches and is a good winter energy source.
